I heard about Tour de Fleece last year but didn’t have a wheel yet. Basically you are following the schedule of the Tour de France but making yarn instead of bicycling.
There are a lot of teams you can join and some take it very seriously! My goal is to work through my stash of fibers I’ve been collecting. I have a lot from fiber shows that I attended assuming I would be able to find a good spinning class a lot sooner than I did. I also picked some up when I visited a few yarn shops while out of town.
The spinning selection at the few local stores we have is pretty slim so festivals are where its at if you really want variety and good deals.
I’m joining in with the Lancaster Guild, the Flying Fibers yarn shop and the Chesapeake Fibershed Facebook groups. The first two are pretty chill and the last one focuses on locally produced fiber which I actually have a fair amount of from the festivals.
Today I spun the batt I made last week in that class. It wasn’t huge so I split it and plied it together.

I think I did pretty well! I was aiming for art yarn and I think it was a little too chunky for my flyer because it got stuck a couple times when I was plying.
