Passementerie Class at Peters Valley School of Craft

This week I took a three day workshop at Peters Valley School of Craft about modern passementerie. I have really been looking for something that I can do on my loom(s) that is more dimensional and use the cord and other things I’ve been making.

This really fit the bill! I made three little projects to completion and it was so fun.

Peters Valley is really far! I drove up and stopped about halfway in Bethlehem, PA for lunch and some yarn storage visiting.

I stayed in a really cute motel (Cobmin Valley Motel) for like $60/night instead of staying with roommates in the Peters Valley housing for more. Lunch was included but it was really weird—just one option and it was things like chicken wings or stuffed fish that seem polarizing? I ended up starving the first day and picking up a sandwich on my way in (my room had a freezer so I picked up some ice packs at Shop Rite) for the second day. The third day I was done early and went to see a alpaca farm and just got an early dinner after.

I really liked the passementerie! Narrow warps and a lot of room for creativity. I really haven’t been enjoying weaving flat things and it takes so long to set up. The loom takes over my whole living room which makes it difficult if I can’t warp all at once. This will be so much quicker! And I can use my latchet lucet cords and random objects liked I’ve dreamed about.

These are them hanging out an drying.
