As I mentioned before, I’ve been having a lot of floaters in my eyes after my second posterior vitreous detachment. They are worse at night (maybe because I am more tired? It’s darker?) so I was looking for something to do in the evenings that would be clear to see and not too fiddly. I had signed up for a blanket knit along that ended up being super repetitive (6 out of 20 squares were the same! WTF!) and I dropped out. That was supposed to entertain me all year!
I ended up getting this kit from The Dizzy Knitter which was really just two paired skeins of yarn (Juniper Moon Farm Cumulous in Dusty Woods and Cornflower) and the free pattern. They were out of a few combos and this was the best out of what was in stock that I would actually wear.
I also the bought more of the yarn in different colorways (solids Hollyhock, Blackberry and variegated Nautical Twilight) on clearance from Little Knits in case I wanted to make it again or I didn’t like the colors in person.
The Dusty Woods and Cornflower were good pairing so I used them right away. Hollyhock was not a good choice for Nautical Twilight but Blackberry is okay if dark.
The pattern is super easy. It would be a good on-the-go pattern but I would still need to be able to write down what row I was on.
I made it in about 10 days of intermittent knitting. It’s a nice, soft and fairly light feeling cotton blend.
I like how it turned out but learned I should have used the end of the variegated yarn (Dusty Woods) with the color I wanted to see most (purple) first. I thought it might even out since the later stripes are wider and the middle section would be behind your neck but you really see the most of the color you start with.
That wasn’t as clear in the pictures I saw on Raverly as it was in person. The whole pattern is based around this yarn’s long stretches of color sandwiched between solid stripes so your eye is drawn to the variegations and the first half of the shawl is really busy,
I’m glad I didn’t chose to do the Nautical Twilight/Blackberry combo first because the outer edge of that cake (which is how I started the Dusty Woods) is a slightly pukey yellow shade and the center is the much prettier pinks and purples. I would not want a shawl where that yellow is the most eye catching part!
I added an extra 10 rows of the variegated because I had extra on the skein so the shawl ended with that instead of the solid as the pattern calls for. I had enough Cornflower to add more of that too but I thought that would make the shawl too big and floppy.

Now I need to figure out what to do with all that blanket yarn.
