When I took my not-so-great art batt class one of the few takeaways was that you can try all sorts of different yarns as cores for hand spun.
Core spinning is popular since you don’t have to ply the yarn which requires twice as much fiber. That means you can get a lot more length from your spinning fiber.
You can use commercial thread or other yarns. The instructor said that using novelty yarns can be an easy way to add color and texture.
I had thrifted a big bag of mostly novelty and acrylic yarn last year and used it to make a lot of bookmarks and things like that but there were a few things in there I didn’t even look at. I thought there was some eyelash yarn in there and there was! I pulled out a ball of Lion Brand “Fun Fur Prints” in Tropical.
I used that and the batt we made yesterday.
I think it turned out cute! The “eyelash” parts peek out and add a lot of texture.
