Cable Knitting Class!

We had our cable knitting class at Sweet Pea Fibers down in Hyattsville. It is a bit of a drive but we didn’t hit much traffic. There is easy free parking behind the building.

The shop actually shares space a fabric store so it’s busy and there is a ton to look at!

It turned out to just be the two of us in the class which was fine. The instructor was the owner and very good. She explained everything nicely, demonstrated everything and even wrote down the instructions.

Not only did we learn how to do cables and twists but she also taught us some problem solving skills and some increases.

It was a great class! I’d happily to take another there. I appreciated the class was a skills class vs a project class and didn’t take place over a meal time. That is surprisingly difficult to find! I like eating lunch and I don’t like being locked into a project to learn a skill that I might otherwise have no interest in. I also don’t want to devote literal so much time to one project—I don’t live near any fibers arts stores or centers so classes where I have to travel weekly isn’t very appealing. This was perfect! I think we learned enough we can do it ourselves and understand if we are doing something wrong. Which was my goal!

We ended up getting some notions. The selection was really good for a small store. Not only yarn and knitting and crochet items but also needle felting, some fibers for spinning and dyeing yarn. She said that they were going to start some table top weaving classes soon.
